'Emergency' Charger for Nokia 6230
|
|
| chrisM 2005-07-27, 5:48 pm |
| Hi,
I have a Nokia 6230 and I'm trying to find an 'Emergency' battery
powered (AA/AAA/pp9 etc.) or windup charger for it. (I'm off on a
camping holiday, nowhere near a power socket...).
I've looked at several such chargers, but none of them seem to work
with my phone. I get a message that says 'Not Charging' I think the
6230 needs a higher current than older Nokias.
Anyone recommend one that is known to work with the 6230? I don't want
to pay a lot for it. Certainly no more than a 10er.
Thanks,
Chris.

I appreciate what you're asking but...
Why not just take a spare battery?? and switch the phone off when it's
not needed

Without wishing to sound un-grateful, if thats's what I wanted to do, I
wouldn't have asked about emergency chargers.
1) I don't have a spare battery, and don't really want to buy one for 1
weeks camping.
2) I may need to take important calls/texts, so it will need to be left on
during the days at least.
:-)

| Hmm, thanks for the thought, but I bought one of those (or one very very
similar). It seemed to work once with brand-spanking new batteries, but
after that, the same problem 'Not Charging' on the phone display.
Come on guys, someone with a 6230 MUST have bought an emergency charger that
deffo works well.
Anyone suggest why I'm getting this message on the phone? I'm assuming its
because the charger isn't providing a high enough current to work properly.
Anyone know the charging requirements of the 6230 as compared to older
Nokias? The above charger works fine with an old 3210 that I have.
(My 6230 charges OK with it's main plug-in charger, so I don't think it's
the phone)
Thanks,
Chris.

Take the old brick with you then, it should not be too much of a bother for
just one week camping!
Where are you camping thats so far from a power point? If a normal campsite
ask the site manager to charge it for you over night?

It's actually a music festival in Hungary. There may well be facilities
onsite for charging phones, but from previous experience, that usually means
some serious queueing. If I can buy a charger for 5-10 quid, it will just
make life a lot easier.
I could take the 3210 with me, but I'd prefer my new phone as then I can
take some piccys of the festival without having to take my camera as well.
(phone = small and light. My camera = large/bulky and heavy).

While it's good to talk and all that. and I'm quite happy to chat about
where I'm going, and what the possible alternatives are etc. etc. I'm no
closer to getting my original question answered...
So: Anyone know of an cheap emergency charger that THEY KNOW will work with
a Nokia 6230?
Thanks
;-)
Chris.

| Loads to choose from if you google but if they work ok (I know your original
question) is anyones guess.
And since no one seems to have tried one it may be just buy one and hope for
the best really.
Hope you get sorted anyway.

Can't help with the original query but I also get a "not charging"
message on an N-gage when I tried an el cheapo USB charger from
poundland.
Anyone know the cause of this message?
Steve.

I bought a battery (original nokia) for £6.00 from ebay for my 6230 !
Surely it must be worth it !!

I know you have stated you want an emergency charger but how much cheaper
than £7.50 will one of these be?

FWIW at Glastonbuy my 6230 lasted from Thursday through to Monday.

What about one of these:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/6523.htm
Not sure how good they are, and it'll only give a "one off" charge,
rather than multiple as you might get with a hand wound or battery
powered model.

The ones in my local Poundsaver work fine.
Rule of thumb, make sure it uses 4 AA or AAA cells, the ones
that only use 3 cells are of no use, and use fresh Alkaline cells.
Not Nicads or NiMh rechargeables, they don't produce enough voltage

| Thanks for all the feedback guys.
I must confess I didn't realise that spare mobile batteries were so cheap
now. Sounds like the best solution is just to buy a spare (or even 2, @ 4.99
each!).
Cheers,
Chris.

I appreciate that - and no offence was meant - it's just from
experience, sometimes the obvious gets overlooked and and one ends up
with a convoluted answer, instead of standing back and re-evaluating.

Fair comment, and I hope no offence was taken to my reply. Reading it again,
it sounds a little more terse than I intended. :-/

That actually looks pretty handy. I have just bought a spare battery now,
but might look into that also.
