A mate has just got an Orange 6680 and he can't seem to modify the navi key
or get rid of the active standby. My Vodafone version I can changed
everything. I've changed all 7 buttons and I don't have use the active
standby either.

I think if this is true, then Orange are a useless bunch of w*nk*rs. The
point of have a S60 handset is that you can modify to do what you want, but
Orange seem to have destroyed this.

If this is the case, does anyone do generic flashing yet? He's not worried
about unlocking it, but he would like to use it the way Nokia intended.

Thanks

I'm waiting on this as well. I've also heard that the non-Orange'd
phones are much more stable as well. There's a chap hangs around on
alt.cellular.nokia (Richard Colton I think) who seems into all that, so
I'd guess he'll post stuff up if/when this can be done to the 6680.

The 6680 can already be decustomised (using JAF or GTi). Unfortunately, BB5
flashing is still in its infancy and consequently if anything goes wrong
during flashing they are an absolute pig to revive. When you bear in mind
that most unlockers are flashing phones for a pittance, it's little wonder
that people don't really want to offer it as a service until flashing
becomes more reliable.

Richard,

Can you decustomise the 6680? And how much do you cost and the lead time for
doing this?

Thanks

We can do it (we use JAF currently), but we're not offering it as a service
at the moment. We've tested BB5 flashing and decustomisation, and to be
brutally honest it's still a bit pants. Out of every ten handsets tested,
we've ended up fannying around with three or four of them after showed
problems either during or after flashing. Each one we had to recover too on
average 2-3 hours to fix, so it's really not viable to us to do them
commercially just yet.

OK, even for an extra fee? Seriously you seem to know your stuff and I feel
confident getting my mate to come to you.

Lol! No, not at the moment.

That's kind of you to say, but my advice is to wait a few weeks. A better
flashing solution is coming which should be far more reliable.

To be honest I think it will have gone back to Orange by then, He's majorly
pissed about the state of the interface. He's already bitched to Orange
twice. once to a tubby and once to the head of the 3G. They know they are in
the site about it, but they don't seem willing to do anything about it.

They have had a stack of complaints, but may be they will do something.

Thanks again.

Blimey, you've done well there! Unless there is a knwon problem with the
customised firmware it's very unusual that an official service centre would
be able or willing to replace it.
