Are these legal in the UK? I live in an area with little reception, just
wondered if one of these would make significant difference.

Who would know / find out if you had one and how would they know / find out
you had one?

That one wouldn't be of any use in the UK anyway since the USA works on
different frequencies.

Well the person who sold it to you would know. Your spouse might know.
Your children might know. Your neighbour might know. Basically
unless you install one and tell no one, someone is bound to know. Fall
out with that someone and they are bound to shop you.

Presumably the same problem as with growing drugs in the attic.

How did you know I grow drugs in the attic? I didn't tell anyone! Anyway, if
I did install a wireless repeater that worked, I think my neighbours would
be happy to get some signal on the phone.

Does anyone know what the 1900 band is allocated to in the UK? Just
curious.

These repeaters would be very useful. I would probably buy one if it
weren't for the dubious legality.

Do mobiles in the UK run on 800 or 1900?

There is nothing dubious about it - they are illegal.

As it would quite probably ruin what little bit of signal they had
you may find they may not be quite so happy. The units are very
prone to producing multipath effects and at the edge of their
coverage where their repeated signal and the main signal are similar
can degrade communications considerably.
