I've checked out Exifer, which is freeware. Its user interface is a
little unfriendly and has too many apparently unnecessary options.
However, it does the job and lets you "export" the relevant file data
and "import" it back again later. You can even edit the data from one
file, "export" it and then "import" it to multiple files at the same
time (great when, like me, you have hundreds of picture files spanning
the last 5 years).
