Author Cold calling sales from 3?

I've just taken a call on my mobile from some geezer (with an Indian
accent) who at first said he was calling from 3 CS's, offering me a new
12 month contract (with the latest Moto handset) for £2.99 / month (500
minutes + 100 texts) with cashback. When I queried the cashback thing,
(since when did the network do a cash-back deal?) he admitted the deal
wasn't actually with 3 but was 'out-sourced' by 3 to his company'.

Is this a scam?

Yes, I have had several of these and so have other people on 3.
They do not offer deals as good as can be had from elsewhere.

I think these calls originate from Indian and so are not regulated by
the TPS

I called them a bunch of w*nkers and told to f*ck off .. seemed to have
the desired affect

I've been called by them a lot over the last 6 months or so. I think
they are in India.
I get one call from '3' offering something like 500 free minutes any
network, any time for about =A310/month. Then within minutes of talking
to them I'll get another call from t-mobile with a similar offer.

I haven't received anything in the post from them, ever! And they keep
calling.

I've had about 10-12 of them over the past year - I tell all of them that
I'm not in the least interested in their 'amazing deal'

Cheers

Do you meant the company, 3 or as I suspect both?

It's not 3, but a company that's offering you a connection to the 3 network.
They would have taken your credit card details if you let them. Did you get
the company name or telephone number?

No. It is a company who knows which number ranges were issued by a
network about a year ago and therefore who will be coming up for
contract renewal.

They are offering you a new contract.

Next time - ask them who they are trying to contact. If the referral
came from 3 then they will have your name.

The response will be "We want to talk to you" or "We want to talk to
the owner" - keep asking for a name. I always tell them that I'm a
business answering service and - if they can't give me a name then I
can't put them through to the right person.

i have also had this cold calling and it can be put to a stop.

i have used the telephone prefrance service and it has worked these cold
callers dont seem to ring now. so go to http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ and
sign up and it seems to stop it and you can regester for unwanted post to be
stoped and so on as well. from james

The moron who rang me yesterday didn't know what the TPS was (yes,
I'm registered) and claimed his company was "part of 3" ;-)
