Author T Mobile MDA - with Sat Nav

Seems like a good deal to me as I am after a new phone and also a Sat Nav.

Does anyone know if the Sat Nav will work after the contract has ended or if
you need to keep the contract going after the 18 months for Sat Nav to work.

Thanks,

RB

To run navigation software does not require use of the mobile network,
all you need is the device itself and the associated GPS equipment.

And possibly a subscription for the service or updated maps?

Gareth.

This device is a Windows Pocket PC with a built-in phone. The GPS
software has nothing to do with the phone bit (except for the CoPilot
Live features which you may not want to use anyway).

However, in general, you'll not want to use it as a PDA if the phone
bit isn't working (there are better PDAs standalone).

Remember that a GPS navigation system that you've had for 18 months
will have maps at least two years out of date, so chances are you'll
want to upgrade it by then.

I think the need to upgrade maps can be exagerated. The roads in the UK
don't change that much.

You may think that. As someone who actually uses this software, I can
tell you that you are incorrect.

The roads don't change much, as long as things like the M6 relief road
and the M621 extension don't count, and as long as changes to
junctions and the directions of one-way streets don't affect how you
plan your journeys.

If fact, there are quite a lot of changes over time. You do need new
maps every couple of years. This is far more important with routing
programmes rather than paper maps, because the latter don't have the
fine detail needed.
