GPRS email character problems

I recently posted a message with subject of "GPRS Virgin SMTP server".

I've got a Sony Ericsson Z600, I am with Pipex adsl.

As previously mentioned I can receive emails fine but sending
generally fails.

Playing around with the settings I am finding that if a period (Full
stop) or dash appears in the email address it fails but if it is a
simle address on occasions it will send.

I've tried various mail settings but to no avail, anyone expereinced
anything similar?
