| I am looking for a GSM modem or a kit to connect a PC to mobile phone
as well as software that can transmit and receive voice, send control
signals, detect caller id, etc. Where can I find such a beast?

If you have a recent Sony Ericsson phone and a Bluetooth adapter on
your computer it will do pretty much all of this by default. To do all
you mention above, you will also need the free "Float's Mobile Agent"
software (have a search on the Internet.)
It depends on the make and model of your phone - there is no universal
system for connecting such things to your PC and no universal software
for doing what you list.
