Author Mobile phones died when contract ended?

My wife had a Samsung A300 flip phone with Vodafone a few years ago. She
got a new phone (Samsung E700) with O2 and stuffed the old A300 in a
cupboard for a few months. When we dug it out to sell it, it was dead -
tried charging it for a few days but it would not power up at all.

Recently she traded in the E700 for a newer model as part of an upgrade and
same again. The E700 kicked around unused for a couple of weeks and when we
tried to power it up to copy the data from it, it too was dead. No amount
of charging and swapping sims would revive it.

Do mobile phones just die when their contracts expire or are we just really
unlucky to have 2 phones go dead on us so quickly after the contract ends?

Are the phones really dead, or are they just sleeping?

And do mobile phones dream of text sheep?

Just unlucky - depends on how much usage the phone had while it was in
frequent use - batteries last longer now, but still don't last forever... ;)

I expect so, and that their owners may use them to call 999 to save a
burning kitten one day ;-)

Would batteries matter if the phones were plugged into the chargers?

You know what Douglas, I doubt very much whether anyone really cares about
what you believe.

BTW, got any good books on Oracle geek-boy?

Just unlucky.

Soundslike the battery has seized. Try replacing the battery.

Try charging the handset without the battery attached - the E700 can run
just off the mains charger.

Thanks for the advice Jon.

So if I plug the phone into the charger without the battery in and it is
still dead, then it is likely that the phone is FUBAR?
