Just had someone who sounded like he was a million miles away cold call me
with a "free sree mobile phone".
He just wanted to check some details and it would be in the post to me.
I thought I'd just check some details first: £440 for a minimum 18 month
contract, with a camera-phone.
But he seemed VERY surprised that I'd bothered to work it out. I said £440
was too much for a contract.
So he put me on hold for all of 4 seconds, and said he'd spoken to his
supervisor, and I could have a £210 cheque after 12 months.
Anyway, the call waiting beep went, so I said there was someone at the door,
dumped him, took the other call.
He must have tried 20 times to get through! I finished the other call, then
left it off the hook.
Within minutes of having hung up half an hour later, it went off again. It
was him again!
I said "hang on", and put him on the table. For nearly 7 minutes he said
"Derro? Herro? Herro? I called someone on the mobile and we had a chuckle,
eventually he started saying "damn you, where are you!", and eventually it
went dead.
They must be desperate to get business. With those rates (it was the 500
minute plan) I'm not surprised!
*PS - my number is registered with the TPS, so yes, cold callers are fair
game before someone tells me they were "just doing their job"....
