The Direct Debit guarantee states that they should be cancelled if not
used for 12 months - sounds like your bank is not following the rules!

Cancelled *automatically* - ?? I don't think so. If my bank cancelled a DD
of mine without asking me first I'd be looking for a new one pronto..!
