Author O2 data - cheaper for low users on PAYG than contract?

As a low user of GPRS, it seems ludicrous that I can buy 4MB of data as a
PAYG bolt-on for £5, yet as a contract user, O2 Data 5 will cost me £8...for
only 1MB more!

PAYG Browse and download 4MB for £5 = £1.25/MB

O2 Data 5 5MB for £8 = £1.60/MB

Am I missing something?

Si.

Yes, Orange PAYG..... GPRS is only £1 for a day of unlimited use.

Very good it is, too. I used it for a couple of nights this week whilst
away on a course, staying in some horrible chain hotel in Swindon.

Except I need regular access to email, usually about 100K daily.

With your suggestion, paying daily - that's at least £28 and as much as £31.
Better to buy a bundle.

I know, I left them recently. They couldn't actually match the deal I got
from O2.

XDA Mini S, 400 Voice, 150 text, 1Meg GPRS £30/month.

Can you not combine the Orange 4 meg for 4 quid and the quid a day
limitless?

For example if you need 100k a day for emails the 4 quid would cover
you - but if you used the quid a day thing too for longtrain
journeys/while waiting - if you are working away from home - if you get
stuck on the M6 and know you are better sitting in a service station
for a few hours - if your flight is delayed for hours etc.

I am just guessing this - as I have a friend who let an orange contract
with an SPV run to PAYG but each time she buys the 4 quid thing they
add it as 4 hours of CSD which is pointless as she only uses it for
messenger (which uses a tiny bandwidth).
