Do a search on ebay.
I got a Virgin Australia SIM card for a fiver delivered to the UK.
It allowed my to tell my friends and relatives my number before
leaving.
When I got to Australia, I registered the SIM on the phone. giving my
hotel as the address.
The offer at the time was AU$ 20 free credit put on the SIM. (Roughly a
tenner)
so the card was effectively free.
I bought two of these and it covered all the calls/texts made in my
four week holiday.
A bargain IMHO

i put $30 credit, which gave me $120 worth of
calls, so it was only costing about 5pence per
minute back to the uk
