Getting 6680 to work with laptop...
|

| Hi guys,
I've got my first laptop today and I'm at a loss as to how to get my 6680 to
work with it.
I'm wanting to use the laptop and mobile for web browsing (I know it will be
slow and expensive, but that's not an issue).
I've installed the Nokia PC suite that came on the cd that I got from
Vodafone when I got the phone and there's a number of problems:
Windows (XP Media Centre Edition) keep "finding new hardware" (the phone)
and trying to install the software for it. My home pc (XP Pro) was doing
this too when I tried it some time ago at home.
Windows does see the phone (as in it says "new hardware found" then "Nokia
6680") but PC suite doesn't.
In one of the screen in PC suite (modem settings I *think*) it asks for
something like a GPRS gateway...?
HELP - PLEASE!!!

I should also add that the phone is on contract and [at work] I am within a
3G coverage area.

Sounds as if Nokia Connection Manger (in Control Panel, or by using the 'get
connected' link in PC Suite) hasn't been configured properly - double check
that you have the correct settings.
If you are using a USB cable, the connectivity cable drivers (separate to PC
Suite in some instal packages) must also be installed.
Hope this helps.

Sorted now, the software from the cd didn't work properly so I

It's probably the best phone connection software I've used to date - Nokia
got that right, at the very least. Great simple interface and features.

Yes! I was looking all over for how to get connected to the net once I'd got
the lappy seeing the phone, then I spotted the "connect to the internet"
button in the PC suite, d'oh!

Sorted!
I never use in-box CDs to install phone software. They are well out of date
by the time they reach you!!
Always go straight to the website :)
