Charter of uk.telecom.mobile (Not Moderated)

This group is for the discussion of topics relevant to:-
The UK mobile telephone networks.
Satellite telephone services usable within the UK.
Services, hardware, software and applications available for/from the above
networks.

Advertising is forbidden.

Encoded binaries (e.g. pictures, compressed files, etc.) are forbidden. Such
material belongs on a web or FTP site to which a pointer may be posted.
Cryptographic signatures (e.g. PGP) may be used where authentication is
important and should be as short as possible.

Posts must be readable as plain text. HTML, RTF and similarly formatted
messages are prohibited. To see how to make some common newsreaders comply
with this, read <http://www.usenet.org.uk/ukpost.html>.
Pointers to commercial or other web sites in signatures are permitted
provided the message is on-topic. All signatures should be 4 lines or fewer
and preceded by the customary usenet separator "-- " (dash, dash, space) on
a line of its own."

That takes about 99% of postings away then. No brand names, no company
names, no shop names, contract details or anything else that could identify
a service or product.
How many adverts do you see in here? People advertising shops, contracts,
sim cards, special deals, phones on offer, ebay links, links to sites.
You will agree that "no advertising" is a silly thing to have in a charter.
Maybe you need to go away and think about what you mean, then reword the
details you sent.

Not really. Blatant adverts adverts are few and far between. Links in
signatures are allowed.

Also recommendations aren't necessarily adverts. *Sometimes* they are, but
not always.
