Author o2 Pay & go Phone. Service to stop!

Hi,

I have an old Philips Diga on o2 (previousley BT Cellnet pay & go),
Anyway On dialling the top-up line (by pressing and holding 3) there
is a message saying that they are switching off the technology that
supports this handset on 31st May 2006.

Has anyone else heard anything about this? There is nothing on their
Website?

Are o2 forcing people to migrate to other tarrifs?

I doubt this phone can be unlocked, can it?

Regards

Wayne

There was a thread on this fairly recently... you can probably find it
using google groups.

Yes. but its more down to how the phone works than the tariff... on
that model and others of a similar age, the Top-up credit is stored
with the phone and the SIM card is tied to the phone and vice versa
(ie sim won't work in another phone, and phone won't take another
sim).
Can't remember the details in the original thread, but if you call O2
customer services they may be able to send you a new SIM for more
modern handsets to allow you to keep your number.

They cut mine off 5 months ago without warning and with it being used in
line with their T&C's. Hope you get any credit still stored on your phone
but don't hold your breath.
