02 loses my business

| I'm sure we've all had stupid business experiences with O2.
I'm interested in getting a 3G phone, mainly for data. In fact my usage of
voice is so low that last year when my contract ended I tried to go onto
PAYG with my existing O2 account. O2 customer services persauded me to stay
by offering me a £120 credit. So for the last eight months I have actually
not paid O2 anything and I still have enough credit for one more month, such
is the low usage on this account - and because I am a "loyal" customer, get
this, I also get a loyalty bonus credit added each month in addition to the
credit they gave me at the beginning of this contract period.
Anyway, at the weekend I'm in my local O2 shop and I fall for the new
Samsung Z510 3G phone. I call O2 and they indicate I can have it for £19
plus £19 month on O2 50. When I call back the next day to confirm it all
comes to a halt because now they insist I can't get out of my existing
contract until its anniversary on the 15th July.
Between now and then I am likely to spend less than £45 (my credit is coming
to an end but I've got about a months worth left) and I'm offering to extend
my contract for year now, worth a minimum of £240 and probably a lot more
once I start pumping data up and down the 3G connection but O2 are not
having any of this. Absolutely not. Have to pay them the balance of my
contract (£45) or forget it. So, I've decided to forget it.
I suppose I'll have my revenge in July when I can decide which network is
worthy of having my business.

Welcome to the standards of customer service and care at O2. Their ability
and willingness to stick to agreed deals is well known*, so always get or
send something in writing otherwise you end up writing one of the many posts
like this one.

Why not just get a new contact and keep the old one going?
