Have taken some videos with my phone that are saved in the .3gp format
How/Can I convert to an mpg so it plays full screen on my p.c.? Tried
renaming it with mpg file extension but that did not work

Quicktime will play 3gp video & Quicktime pro should be able to convert it.

Quicktime plays 3gp files. You could try maximising it, but you will probably
find the resolution of the file is not that good.

Imtoo is popular, probably not least because of number of cracks for it

VCD/DVD mpg very well, It is very easy to use.
