Fresh Voicemail Problem

To what number should I re-direct a call to a Fresh mobile
so as to get the voicemail system?
*NOT* the number to retrieve messages: the number to _leave_ them.
Here's the situation:
I recently bought a Fresh SIM card, which I want to use with an aged
Nokia 8310 that was originally supplied by O2.
((BTW: Why the **** don't Nokia provide a way to determine the
model of a phone without removing the battery? I mean, if
they feel printing it on the phone would deface the design,
couldn't they put it on screen somehow??))
Anyway, I can make and receive calls just fine, and I can re-direct
calls to another phone number.
But I cannot use voice mail. Dialling "222" gets me
into the system of menus and such like, so that part seems to be
working. But I cannot actually divert calls to it.
When I try (by choosing "to voice mailb" from the divert menus), the
phone displays "divert activated" as normal, but if I call when the phone
is switched off, I hear
"Your call is being diverted. Please wait while we connect your call"
followed by
"You have dialled an incorrect number."
((Insert here a rant about the incorrect and unhelpful response of
the staff on the Fresh support number, the Carphone Warehouse where
I bought the card, and their service centre who wanted to charge me
40 pounds before even trying to "reprogram" my phone))
Now, I *think* the problem is that the 8310 is trying to re-direct calls
as if it was still on the O2 network. So when I query the status of
the redirect, it says it is active, and re-directing to "+449588901".
Every time I dial "222" to check for voice mails, I get an SMS that
says it is a network message that I should delete. But the behviour
of the phone is unchanged.
Given that I can redirect calls to other phone numbers, I'm guessing that
if I could find out the correct number to use, and explicitly request
a re-direct to that number, I'd get the voice mail service.
So can anyone tell me to what number I should re-direct calls to a
Fresh mobile to have them reach my voicemail?
Oh, and is there a way to change what number the 8310 believes it
should divert to for voice mail?
Robert.

Should your voicemail not already be preset, dial 222 from your Fresh Mobile
and the voicemail settings will be sent directly to the handset. All you
have to do is read and delete the network message, then restart the phone.
If this does not work, please call us on 0870 111 5000.

Your handset does not have it's CPHS switched on (quite normal for an O2
supplied 8310) and consequently will not read =certain bits of info
from the SIM, I.e. voicemail settings.

It may different for every user. Call the customer service line.

Thanks for that! Searching for CPHS in the group archives suggests
that I need to use "logomanager" to change the CPS override setting.
And since that costs 20 pounds, and no doubt considerable faffing,
I'll not bother...

Thanks for that, too.
I'd already tried them once, when I first had the problem, and they
told me to go to the Carphone Warehouse shop, who said I needed to go
to the Edinburgh Carphoen Warehouse service centre, who told my wife
that the phone was fine and that everything was working as it should
be (even though I could not use voicemail). The only thing they could
do was "reprogram the software" which would cost 40 pounds. But since
they though the phone was "fine" anyway, this didn't seem promising.
And this from a company selling a brand new phone for 45 pounds. Is
something sad, crazy or what?
Anyway, I tried CS again, and got a call back (really!) with a
sensible response ! THANK YOU HAZEL!
The answer, for the sake of future Google Group searchers, is that (for
me, at least) the Fresh voicemail is
+44069 followed by the last 10 digits of the mobile number
Diverting calls to that number takes messages, and then dialling 222
from the mobile gets them.
I just have to put up with deleting the SMS that the network sends me
each time I use voicemail!
