Author GPRS on PAYG

Sorry if this is a FAQ, I have looked there and not found the answer.

Is there a PAYG deal that gives you unrestricted GPRS access. I had O2
(Motorola V547, now stolen) with GPRS (as advertised) but using it as a
modem I was limited to O2's own site only. Wouldn't let me use it with
TomTom to get weather and hold-ups etc. paired OK but wouldn't connect.
O2 'help' line said I'd have to go onto a contract. Seems unreasonable
if I'm prepared to pay the network charges. My usage is about £10 every
three months so I'm not eager to pay £20+ a month.

So, as there is no specific info about this on the networks' web-sites,
I thought I'd ask the wisdom of the group.
