I was told a few years ago and this came up in during a conversation
recently in the pub, that there is a number that you can dial into any
mobile phone which allows access to an engineering menu that will then allow
you to listen to any calls being made through the sector that your mobile
phone is in at the time.

You spend too much time in the pub! Sober up and think about it...

It's true, the number to dial is 64 469 48554253 26 4
It will then come up with a list of all the calls in your sector and you can
choose the one you want to listen to.
A good new feature that has been added recently, if the phone is equipped
with a camera, you can also watch what the phone is currently 'seeing'

(It works best if you type the above number in 'text' mode with predictive
text turned on...)
