Just opened an O2 bill and got a shock.

I was on a 12 month o2 25 contract, and after 12 months rang to get my
pac and port to payg.

The CServices chap said "your on 18 months". I corrected him, he
agreed, and the port went ahead.

The bill I opened was 75 quid ! Clearly, an error has been made, and
the nice lady I spoke to this morning indicated it was an
"innapropriate" termination fee...based on me having an 18 month
contract...which she said it was clear I hadn't !

Shes assured me she will send a message to the appropriate dept, and
all will be good with the world. I want to believe her, but I am
already psyching up for a damaged credit file !

Chances of this going well, anyone ?

Yes. Blimey if that's all it takes to get you worrying about your credit
file then you really should get out more.

For it to get to your credit file to do any damage you would need to be
at the debt-collector stage. Currently you're at the "simple human
error" stage which can be corrected with a few mouse clicks and keyboard
strokes. Take it easy man!

Oddly enough, they made exactly the same "mistake" when I ported to
Three. Strange, that.

I am sure it will take a lot more than a cock-up at O2 to damage your credit
file. Relax your being a bit of a drama queen.

Interesting responses. Its the non payment of it I was worrying about, but
thanks

If they get arsey, it'd be interesting to see their reaction to a
request under the Data Protection Act, then putting in a complaint
about their failure under their obligations of the DPA to keep
accurate data.

The non-payment could get onto your credit file, and there is a very good
chance that once the issue has been resolved with O2 they won't make a
correction to it.

Enough late payments and non-payments will have a negative affect on his
credit file. An unessary addition because of incompetence is not welcome.

Simple human error is not always as easy to get corrected as you seem to
believe. It should be, but trying to get a mistake corrected on a credit
file is not always simple and straight forward..

If your credit file shows ONE and ONLY ONE late payemnt, I know it will not
effect you getting a loan/mortgage/credit card or effect your credit rating.
A series of late/non payments over a 6 months will have an effect. If this
is his only blemish, its not worth worrying about.

Not sure why the OP is worrying here. Of course, ideally you dont want it
on your credit file, especially since its not his fault, but a cock up by
O2.

Because it has the potential to be more than one late payment. All it takes
is O2 to flag it as non-payment of £75.

Would you trust O2 to then correct their mistake? More likely it will remain
as a default.

O2 billing is woefully inaccurate. I joined them last December and over
half my bills contain an error of some sort. The most common is being
charged as a 4 second phone call for text messages send abroad, rather than
4 texts being deducted from my inclusive allowance which has happened on
multiple bills. As many providers are per minute charges, I get charged for
a 1 minute phone call. Each time I ring up, get told I will be credited
then it often doesn't happen.

Twice this year, an O2 customer services representative has called me out of
the blue to ask if I am happy with the service. Both times I have said my
bills are inaccurate and they have promised to look into it and ring back.
Did they? No.

I have just rung up to request my PAC. When asked why, I pointed out that I
was not happy with the accuracy of my bills. Apparently somebody is going
to look into it and call me back. I'll believe it when it happens.

Now they just need to charge me an extra few months when I leave my 12 month
contract to put the icing on the cake.

That does seem unfortunate. I tend to find with most companies, if your
first bill is wrong, you are going to have problems for a few months. If
its right, and you dont complicate matetrs by up/down grading, then things
do tend to go quite well.
