| I am using a virgin sim in an o2 branded N73. When I dial 222 for my
voicemail I get a message that this number is not available on this network.
Was working ok until I done a factory reset.
Anyone any ideas?

222 isn't the voicemail number. On Virgin, as on the host network
T-Mobile, the voicemail number is derived from your own mobile number. For
example if your number is 07789 xxxxxx then your voicemail would be
+440637789xxxxxx.

222 is the number you call in order to set up your voicemail number. On
Virgin PAYG the voicemail number is made up from your own number but the
numbers after +44 are not always 063. If you pay by direct debit then
the voicemail number bears no resemblance to your mobile number at all
and just looks like a standard mobile number, mine starts +447953.
I know you cannot call 222 if you are on PAYG and have no credit (even
though voicemail is free), but can't think of another another reason why
you can't dial it.

That's right, and the reason for the different types of number is you
cannot dial a +440637789xxxxxx format number from overseas when you
are roaming. I got caught out like that when I first got my VM SIM and
they allocated me a +447953 number instead.

Ah, I'd forgotten that, thanks.

Not always, I pay by direct debit and my voicemail number is in the form
+44063xxx.

I just tried it and was told by a recorded announcement that there was a
technical problem and to try later.

Ivor are you sure they've got you on Voicemail Plus? If you pay by
direct debit the voicemail number should be in the format of a standard
mobile number. I was told this by customer services when I queried why
my voicemail number changed when registering for direct debit.

My voicemail number definitely hasn't changed. Mind you I've only recently
registered for DD and haven't yet incurred any charges, I still have a
couple of quid of PAYG credit to use up first, maybe it'll change after
that..?

Oops I spoke too soon, literally as I hit "send" on that last message, I
got a SIM update and it has indeed changed my voicemail number to one
starting +447953xxxxxx so I take it all back..!

Once they set up the DD then the voicemail number should change. You
will use up your remaining credit before incurring any charges.
