| I am a low user, and at present I am on a Voda online 100 for which I
pay £15.00 a month including VAT, ie 15p a minute.
I have seen PAYG, namely tesco, for less than that per minute, but as
I have never had a payg mobile, where does VAT come in to the billing
process. Do you lose 17.5 % at top up, or does each call cost x amount
per minute, plus vat.
Just trying to figure out the best way for me, so thanks in advance
for any help

14.89% of the price you pay for your top-up is for the VAT due on the
calls you will make.

It's only 15p a minute if you use exactly 100 mins per month. If you
use more or less than that, it'll likely be a lot more than 15p/min,
since excess minutes are usually charged at a silly rate and you don't
get money back for unused minutes. Something which should always be
bourne in mind when comparing contracts to PAYG.

PAYG prices are always inclusive of VAT - perhaps with the exception
of any tariffs aimed at businesses, but I don't know of any PAYG
tariffs for businesses.

On Virgin DD PAYG you get a VAT invoice.

Also on Orange (if you ask a couple of times!)

Does VAT matter to you? i.e. Are you a VAT registered company?
VAT is essentially invisible for end users, so whatever they say the cost
is, that is the cost.

well, its a small amount based on my useage, but its not invisible on
my contract, as it is shown, and I pay it.
It was just a genuine query as to how its applied on PAYG, which has
been kindly answered. If I was too worried about the amount of VAT on
£15.00 pm, I couldnt really afford a phone in the first place. Seems a
lot here are concerned with the amount of cancelling etc that goes on,
etc, just to save a couple of quid.

Cancelling? eh?
£15.00 pm is including VAT, so effectively invisible, even if it is shown on
your bill.
