When will carriers offer a GPRS deluxe account with COMPRESSION.

OK, I will pay for uncompressed bytes. All compression codes store
this number in the compressed file [to ensure enough space for
expansion].

Same applies on that *99# modem driver way of dpoing it

I'm not so sure the PPP interface is all the way back to the network,
sometimes I've got the impression the phone supplies the PPP interface to
the GPRS network, rather than the PPP data going to the far side of the
link. If that is the case then such compression wouldn't help at all.

I personally make a compressed SSH tunnel to my ADSL-connected machine and
run most things across that.
