Good cashback deal on 6230i
|

| Hi,
I'm in need of a good cashback deal as my contract is expiring in the
next month. Been on cashback deals for the past two years with OSPS,
first on Voda then on O2 and, although I've had to chase them a lot, I
have managed to get all my dosh.
They're now hassling me to renew again but the deal they're offering
me doesn't seem that good compared to some other around. Problem is
the worry with going elsewhere is that I'll either have trouble
getting the cash out of them or they'll go bump if they're a small
operator.
I currently have a 6230i and am not interested in an other handset. I
therefore either need a contract without handset or else a new 6230i.
OSPS are offering me 9 months @ £1.99 on a £30 per month O2 contract
with 250mins & 100texts (5 payments of £63 back). Looking at some of
the deals on Reestit's site, it appears I can get a brand new 6230i on
Voda with 500mins and full cashback on a £35 per month contract! Only
problem is I've barely heard of the outlets offering these deals, let
alone trust them.
Any advice appreciated. BTW Reestit, howcome there are no OSPS deals
on your site any more?

Go to O2 Retentions (not Upgrades) and negotiate there (follow the
menu as if to cancel the contact). It could take 2 or 3 calls, but you
should be able to get a discount of =A315 to =A320 a month, plus =A3100 cash
in the account at the start for not having a new phone.
I got another =A320 back later, leaving me with 18 months of 200 minutes
plus 100 texts for =A3150 total cost. Oh, and I then added O2 Treats of
40 off-peak any network minutes. Depending on their previous spending,
some people can do a bit better, like 500 minutes for =A320 a month.
I reckoned comparing this to a 6-stage cashback deal of 10 of 12 or 14
of 18 months free, I'd be worse off if I forgot one or had any aggro
reclaiming

In a similar situation, I have had the same phone for 3 years on o2 200
(Nokia 6310i) and for the last 2 years have enjoyed a £15 per month
discount (so, a £30 contract becomes £15). I still don't want a new
phone but O2 tell me that the deal is no longer available so its back up
to £30, or £25 if I lock in for 18 months. The £100 for not changing
phone is still available though if I lock in for 18.
This, plus the rumours of 0870/0800 being charged for in future (I use
them occasionally as I suspect we all do) makes me think that O2 are not
doing good pay monthly deals any more.
Not sure what to do.

Thanks for that, I'm not sure myself.
Still looking at some attractive cashback deals on Reestit's site but
just don't know how reputable some of these outlets are.

Hi Toby,
TBH, E2Save and OSPS don't have any particularly competitive deals ATM.
Their forte seems to be concentrated on O2 these days and even those are
thin on the ground (even the rest of the competition has dried up where
O2 is concerned) - however, there are new O2 tariffs being launched this
week and maybe that will kick start a cashback revival on this network.
Anyway, as your first respondent said, if you're unsure of the remainder
of the retailers on my site (persaonlly, I would be loathe to recommend
any one over all the others unless I have had personal cashback claiming
experience of them all - I'm certainly not in the business of making a
recommendation purely in order to gain a sale) you could do a lot worse
than see how far you can push your current provider where a renewal deal
is concerned. You certainly stand to lose nothing by asking.
If you're not sure how best to play this, feel free to email me via my
site - I'm always happy to provide pointers (one of these days I'll get
around to writing an article on the subject).
