Nokia 6280 - any way of reprogramming a key to change volume?

| The volume up button on my 6280 doesn't work. I can turn it up via
bluetooth or the headset, but when I unplug, it goes back to how it was.
It's a physical defect, Nokia are telling me that their switches don't
break and I must have damaged it. while I argue the toss with them (will
report back here!), I need to be able to hear when someone rings. Is
there some way of making a "soft" key into a volume button?

Just found out that if you press DOWN (or UP, depending on which one
isn't working!) on the side volume button, you can then press left or
right on the direction pad, to make the volume change. This doesn't
mean it's over between me and Nokia though!
