I know it's slightly O/T, but ....

My niece in Florida has an AT&T contract but her phone's 'expired'.

If she buys an AT&T 'Go Phone'
http://tinyurl.com/3y3fpw
and puts her 'contract sim' in it, will it work?
I know it should, but with it being the usa ....... ;-)

FWIW, the sim just worked fine in my wife's unlocked NK6101

Yes. it should work fine in any AT&T phone or for that matter, any
unlocked phone with the appropriate bands.

Is it a 'new' ATT phone, or is it a pre-Cingular ATT phone?

My ATT SIM works fine in all the _unlocked_ phones I've tried it in!

Hmm, dunno. It says 'refurb'. Did you look at the link?

Sorry, I wasn't clear - I meant her previous phone and SIM, not the
GoPhone, which will almost certainly be 'new' ATT.

I've been told by ATT/Cingular staff, that my 'old' ATT contract SIM
will not work in the new (locked) phones. I tend to believe this, as
I've had trouble finding the correct codes for unlocking various ATT and
Cingular phones - sometimes it took two or three tries.

Ah!

She's on 'old' ATT (Cingular)

If her SIM says Cingular on it she'll probably be fine (if the SIM is
a 64k SIM or says "3G" it is certain she'll be fine). If her SIM
says "AT&T" on it, and is 3 or more years old, then she might have
a problem, though any "old SIM" problems can be cured by a trip to
the AT&T store to swap the SIM for a newer one. The "old AT&T" he's
talking about is AT&T Wireless which was acquired by Cingular four years
ago, before Cingular became AT&T (too boring to talk about, this clip

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtFtcp4mNzA

explains it as well as anything...).

In any case a prepaid AT&T phone should work fine with a postpaid
AT&T SIM, the same way this works in the UK.
